Mary Queen of Scots Cross Pendant – Pewter – Scottish Jewellery

In Stewart times the most common types of jewellery were rings, brooches, bracelets, necklaces and earrings. These were mode from gold, silver and bronze. Precious and semi-precious stones were also very fashionable and included pearls, emeralds, rubies and sapphires. Mary is often depicted wearing jewellery which includes rings and necklaces. Mary Stewart was born on 8 December 1542, and was crowned Queen of the Scots on 9 September 1543, aged just 9 months. She was forced to abdicate in 1567 and sought shelter with her cousin, Queen Elizabeth of England, in 1568. On 8 February 1587 she was executed, after being accused of plotting to kill Elizabeth.
